Mia

Mia is a 13-year-old Chihuahua who is adored by her mom. She is a sweet, happy senior girl, but her mom recently became concerned about the condition of Mia's teeth. With the help of her caregiver John (pictured here), Mia's mom brought her to Vets in Vans for care.

Mia was suffering from a severe dental infection and needed treatment as soon as possible. Unfortunately, due to a prolonged illness, Mia's mom is on a very tight budget.

Linus was part of our family for many years. We called him our little fox because of his looks and his curious nature. His favorite activity was showing off his dance moves! We miss him very much.

Hollis

Hollis, a 7-year-old Beagle, was surrendered to Animal Rescue, Inc. when his owner's health began to fail.

Hollis had clearly been well cared for in his previous home. But he still needed updated vaccines, neuter surgery, and an extensive exam to make sure he was feeling his absolute best.

Sophie

When Sophie, a 9-year-old lab mix, arrived at Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) it was discovered that she had degenerative joint disease in her hips and a benign tumor at her elbow. These types of ailments can negatively impact a senior dog’s adoption chances.

FOHA’s Senior Care Plan is supported by a Grey Muzzle Organization grant. This program provides medical care for senior dogs to make sure they are healthy for adoption. Staff were able to treat all of Sophie's ailments in time for her to find a new home!

Summer

Summer, an 8-year old hound mix, was seen wandering in Kaloko on the west side of the Big Island of Hawaii. Worried for
her well-being, several neighbors tried to come together and capture her, but she was skittish and wouldn't let humans come near.

In late June, exhausted and emaciated, Summer finally laid down in the woods nearby and allowed a kind family to approach
her. They had had some experience in animal rescue and contacted KARES
- Kohala Animal Relocation and Education Service for advice on how to move forward with her care.
