The mission of the Sacramento SPCA is to foster a loving and compassionate community for companion animals and people by providing assistance, creating lifelong relationships, and saving lives. Since 1892, the Sacramento SPCA has worked to reduce pet overpopulation through affordable spay/neuter services, promote the humane treatment of animals through education and outreach, and assist pet owners through various programs and services designed to keep pets and their families together for life.

One in four animals that arrive at the Sacramento SPCA need extensive medical treatment, many of whom are senior dogs. For example, 8-year-old pug Max arrived needing a lot of help. He was treated for a severe ear infection, received x-rays for his abnormal gait, was diagnosed with and treated for hypothyroidism, and received dental surgery as well as a palate and nares surgery to help treat his brachycephalism. Max was adopted as soon as he healed and is now happy and healthy in his loving home! Grey Muzzle funding will give the same level of care Max received to even more medically-complex senior dogs by covering the cost of their medical treatment and waiving their adoption fees. This impactful funding will ensure that more senior dogs can heal and find loving families as quickly as possible.
