A private nonprofit, the Kentucky Humane Society is the state’s largest pet adoption agency, finding homes for over 6,000 animals a year through 10 permanent adoption sites in the Louisville area. KHS also provides overwhelmed owners with a variety of resources to help them keep their beloved pets in their homes and out of shelters.

Funded from 2014 - 2018
How we help:

The Grey Muzzle grant will support two of the Kentucky Humane Society’s programs for senior dogs: (1) Pet Safety Net Programs, which help keep dogs in their homes by providing support to their owners, and (2) the TLC Fund, which pays for specialized medical care for adoptable shelter dogs as well as “fospice” (foster hospice) care for shelter dogs with life-limiting conditions. These programs aim to reduce shelter intakes by supporting pet owners, and, when that is not possible, ensure that every shelter dog has the best possible quality of life.
