Funding from The Grey Muzzle Organization helps to pay for medical expenses and provide dental care for senior dogs to encourage people to consider them for adoption.

The South Suburban Humane Society is dedicated to promoting the wellbeing of animals in Chicago's south suburbs. Through the care and sheltering of animals needing protection, investigative practices which will prevent abuse, education of the public as to ownership duties and responsibilities, vetted and thorough adoption services, and targeted, high-impact spay/neuter policies, the South Suburban Humane Society will make every effort towards ending animal homelessness, reducing pet overpopulation, and ending cruel, inhumane treatment and abuse towards pets. 

Funding from Grey Muzzle will help Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) increase the prospects for senior dog fosters and adoptions, as well as keep senior dogs in their homes. By providing additional support to those caring for older dogs with age-related medical conditions SASF expects to impact up to 150 senior dogs, like Cheddar, annually. Cheddar, a 9-year-old Korean Jindo, was pulled from an overcrowded municipal shelter. She arrived undernourished, dehydrated and with chemical burns to her face, obviously abused and neglected. She also suffered from numerous age-related conditions that had gone untreated. At SASF, she received care for dental issues, arthritis and an ulcerating eye, as well as removal of a mammary tumor. Thanks to the SASF team and programs, Cheddar is recovering in a loving foster-to-adopt home, and continues to receive ongoing medical care and support from the shelter. 

The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the welfare of homeless pets in their community and, in turn, placing them in permanent, caring homes. Their mission is to provide for the welfare of animals and to reduce the number of homeless pets. Their goal is to promote and nourish the bond between people and animals through adoption, education and community outreach. As an open intake shelter, SASF welcomes stray pets regardless of age, breed, or health and provides them with compassionate care, food, training and medical attention.

Grey Muzzle provides medical funds to help SPARRO bring at-risk senior dogs into their care.

SPARRO is not your standard rescue. It is a temporary home for wayward, abandoned, unwanted or abused dogs. All dogs that enter their organization are treated as members of the family.

The SPCA received a grant from Grey Muzzle for their Senior Wellness Program. Each elderly dog will be given a health screening including blood work, urinalysis, fecal exams, and radiographs to give an overall health picture of the dog.  The SPCA will be using this health package to remove any apprehension of adopting a senior dog.

The SPCA of Wake County is a non-profit animal welfare organization whose mission is to protect, shelter and promote adoption of homeless animals; to provide education about responsible pet ownership; and to reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter programs.

In 2021, The Grey Muzzle Organization’s support helped SpokAnimal shelter pets like Froto receive dental care. In 2022, SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. is expanding the  partnership with SpokAnimal to help senior citizens in the Pacific Northwest obtain dental care for their senior dogs. Grant funding will remove the financial barrier to access high-quality care for senior dogs in need. At SpokAnimal’s clinic, senior pets will receive pre-procedure blood work, comprehensive dental x-rays, cleaning, and extractions. This care will not only restore oral health, it will help eliminate bad doggie breath.

Last year, 3,478 pets found a home through SpokAnimal, including 52 senior dogs. Vibrant transport and foster programs fuel the organization’s success and have helped it become the largest humane society in eastern Washington. Last year, they launched a new Hearts and Paws program, working with seniors living in a skilled nursing facility to “timeshare” the foster care of senior dogs and facilitating the dogs’ placement into new homes–one dog at a time.

The Grey Muzzle grant will offer a safety net to clients who need financial help  to pay for veterinary care. Grant funding will cover diagnostic, medical, dental, and preventative services for senior dogs like 15-year-old Kylie. Kylie’s gum disease was causing her pain and leading to other health complications, but the cost of dental work from a private veterinarian was simply more than her family could afford. The St. Augustine Humane Society performed lifesaving dental surgery, and now Kylie is enjoying her best life at home with her family.

The St. Augustine Humane Society promotes lifelong pet ownership by promoting the health and well-being of companion animals in St. Johns County, FL. Their programs are designed to reduce the number of pets entering shelters. They honor the love people have for their pets by offering veterinary pet wellness programs, medical care, and other resources, ensuring every pet has the chance to live a happy, healthy life. The St. Augustine Humane Society provides hope, healing and recovery.

The St. Louis Senior Dog Project rescues, rehabilitates, and re-homes dogs (and a few cats) with an emphasis on the adoption of older dogs.
