Murphy

    How Grey Muzzle Helped
    Seniors for Seniors

Ms. Lois reached out to Knox PAWS in January of 2018 after her doctor suggested having an animal companion to help with her depression and loneliness.  Ms. Lois desperately wanted the companionship of a furry friend but knew that she really couldn’t afford the costs associated with owning a dog so she decided to give Knox PAWS a call. In just a few short weeks, Ms. Lois found her perfect match with Murphy, a 10 year old rat terrier mix adopted from a local shelter.

The shelter was unsure as to what Murphy’s back story was but they knew he was a sweet little old dog with a lot of love to give. It was truly love at first sight and Murphy and Lois became fast friends. A few weeks after adoption, Ms. Lois reached out to Knox PAWS about a few concerns she had about Murphy’s skin and ears. Ms. Lois said that Murphy spent hours itching and scratching at his skin and paws. She said that Murphy seemed miserable and she was not quite sure what to do. Knox PAWS contacted one of their volunteers to help Ms. Lois and Murphy get to one of their partner vets.

The vet discovered that Murphy had a severe flea allergy and a severe ear infection that had been left untreated in Murphy’s previous home before being surrendered to the shelter. Grey Muzzle funds helped Murphy receive the proper medication and treatment from the vet for his allergies and ear infection. Murphy is doing much better now that he is not constantly itching and scratching and Ms. Lois worries less. Murphy goes in for regular checkups to be sure he stays healthy and stays up to date on vaccinations, flea and tick medication, and heartworm prevention medication.

Ms. Lois said that Murphy brings her so much joy and that she is so thankful for all the assistance she receives from Knox PAWS to keep Murphy healthy and happy!
