Misty Eyes is a nonprofit, 100% volunteer-led animal rescue and humane education center located in Avon, Indiana (just five miles west of Indianapolis). Since their founding in 2011, they have rescued more than 3,000 dogs and cats and provided humane education to hundreds of community residents. In addition to taking in pets that the county shelter and other local agencies cannot care for, they have expanded to help rural, under-resourced agencies across Indiana that are struggling with overpopulation. Many of these animals are seniors or have medical needs. In 2020, Misty Eyes rescued 600 dogs and cats, nearly double the number served in 2019 and 30% over the goal for the year.
Misty Eyes Animal Center (aka Misty Eyes) accepts many senior pets each year who require blood work, dental care, and extensive medical treatment to improve their quality of life. This Grey Muzzle grant will be used to provide this important care for senior dogs, improving their chances for adoption.
