SpokAnimal is Eastern Washington’s largest humane society for adoptions. Last year, it placed over 4,000 animals in loving homes. They promote adoptions via partnerships with seven retail locations, participation in community events, and unique relationships like the one with Sullivan Park Care Center. SpokAnimal also works hard to keep pets and their people together through programs like its pet food bank, an alliance with Meals on Wheels Spokane that provides in-home pet care for their patrons, and its Guardian Angel pet boarding program, which enables pet owners to get the medical care and treatment they need.
Thanks to grant funding from The Grey Muzzle Organization, two exciting things will happen for SpokAnimal C.A.R.E.’s Hearts & Paws program: 1) Seniors living in skilled nursing at Sullivan Park Care Center will have a sense of purpose created by fostering, and finding a home for, one senior dog at a time. 2) Grey Muzzle funding will help up to 30 senior dogs become adoption-ready for the program – dogs like Rico. This handsome 10-year old was overwhelmed at a shelter when his owner passed. Once his vaccines were current and he had a dental check-up, the Hearts & Paws team surrounded him with love until they found him a new home.
