    How Grey Muzzle Helped
Seniors for Seniors Adoption Program Grant

Dolly arrived at the Humane Society of Shelby County (AL) as a heartworm-positive stray. She was not an attention-getter in her kennel and potential adopters kept passing her by. The staff noticed that this older gal was incredibly loving and, because of her unassuming personality and lower energy, decided she'd be a great Seniors For Seniors adoption candidate. Shelby Humane's Seniors For Seniors program is supported by a Grey Muzzle grant.

After she completed heartworm treatment, Dolly went with Shelby Humane to a senior citizens center to meet with potential adopters. Dolly was adopted on the spot by a senior who had come specifically looking for an older dog to love, take on walks and snuggle. It was love at first sight and a perfect match.

Dolly's adopter explained COVID-19 restrictions had impacted her daily activities. She was feeling lonely because she could not travel to see family, could not visit with friends and was looking for a companion. Everyone was so thrilled that these two found each other!
