    How Grey Muzzle Helped
    Dental Expense Grant
    Organization

Chester was surrendered to the local city shelter and arrived dehydrated and suffering from vomiting and diarrhea. The city shelter stabilized Chester before transferring him to Grey Muzzle grantee Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) to receive further treatment for dental disease and be given the chance to find a new home.

During his intake exam at APA!, the severity of Chester’s dental disease was immediately clear. He had bad tartar buildup, exposed roots, inflamed gums, and there was blood on the tongue depressor. This poor fella would need extensive treatment to get him feeling better and reduce his risk of developing other, more serious medical issues.

A generous grant from Grey Muzzle enabled APA!’s clinic to provide ten-year-old Chester with the dental surgery and tooth extractions he needed. APA! also put Chester on a special diet to help him lose weight, since he was on the heavy side and suffered from a collapsing trachea. With proper weight management and use of a body harness for leashing, the prognosis is usually good for this chronic condition. And it didn’t stop Chester from enjoying walks with his APA! foster family, when he wasn’t busy snuggling with them, chasing balls, or catching a quick nap.

With his mouth no longer causing him any discomfort, Chester had no problem getting adopted! He's doing wonderful with his new forever family, who loves him dearly.
