Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, has been helping animals and people since 1873. Support from the community enables nearly 100 staff members and more than 600 volunteers to care for around 10,000 homeless animals each year and makes possible a variety of programs to address issues that contribute to pet overpopulation and the surrender of unwanted animals. As an open-admissions shelter, they accept all animals who come through our doors.
Lollypop Farm adopts animals at our main campus and satellite adoption centers. Cats, dogs, rabbits, small pets, birds, horses, pigs, and other farm animals enjoy the comfort of a nurturing environment, veterinary treatment, and expert care while waiting for a new home.
A grant from Grey Muzzle supplements the Seniors-for-Seniors program at the Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester. A great concern for the elderly is loneliness and loss of desire to engage in day-to-day life. At the same time, more than six million animals are destroyed annually in the United States because homes are not available - older animals being the hardest to place. Lollypop's Seniors-for-Seniors program is a solution for both issues. The Lollypop Farm ensures that all those who are willing to adopt bring home a healthy animal and that every senior can enjoy the benefits of owning a pet regardless of their income.
Lollypop Farm invests significantly in the pets in their care. This includes spaying/neutering, providing all necessary vaccinations, deworming, flea control, heartworm test, and each adopted animal has a microchip so that they can be easily identified should they become lost. Those who adopt through the Seniors-for-Seniors program receive all services for their adopted pet at no charge and adoption fees are waived. They also receive a free exam from a community veterinarian (once adopted) to encourage regular care for their pet, an ID tag, pet carrier, 30 days of pet health insurance, a discount on pet food, free behavior and training advice, and discount obedience classes for dogs. This program works hard to treat the medical issues that older dogs face and to get them ready for adoption.
