Founded in 1952, the Austin Humane Society is the largest, longest-standing no-kill shelter in Austin, Texas. From humble roots as a small organization founded in 1952, they are now a leader in the nation’s largest no-kill community. They serve more than 11,000 animals annually through lifesaving and life-enhancing programs, including adoption, spay and neuter, and disaster relief. Their work also includes engaging the community to be part of meaningful and sustainable solutions for animal care.

Support from Grey Muzzle will allow the Austin Humane Society to improve the health of senior dogs and help them find forever homes. Grant funds will cover blood work costs for senior dogs like Red as they come into the shelter. Funds will also help pay for any emergency or non-routine medical expenses that the increased screening identifies and allow AHS to expand dental services to senior dogs in their care. Grey Muzzle funding will enable AHS to train veterinary student externs on the unique needs of senior dogs.
