Shirley Jones made the trek to Brooklyn, New York, all the way from Selma, Alabama. At 14 years of age, this sweet terrier mix found herself in a shelter when her owner passed away. As rescuers from Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue looked for animals to pull, they knew they had to save Shirley Jones.

Once she was safely in their program, the staff at Badass discovered that Shirley had a lot going on - she was scared of humans, going blind, and facing medical complications with bad teeth and mammary tumors. Thanks to a grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization, on arrival in Brooklyn, Shirley had a full medical work-up and a surgical evaluation that she passed with flying colors despite her age. Recently, Shirley had the first of 2 surgeries to remove the largest of her mammary tumors and spay her to reduce the potential for future growths. After a month of recovery, important for the elder ladies, Shirley will have her second surgery to remove the smaller tumors and take care of her teeth.

Starting from a tough and scary situation, Shirley has blossomed in her foster home, surmounting her fear to become cuddle buddies with her canine and human foster siblings. She is the epitome of resilient and she couldn't be sweeter.
