Update, April 2012
Pookie was adopted! He recovered from his upper respiratory infection, his skin and fur cleared up nicely, and he was successfully treated for heartworms. Pookie is very much loved by his new family. Check out the photo below of Pookie after his "makeover," sporting a Halloween costume shortly before he was adopted.
With an endearing face like Pookie’s, who could resist wanting to nurture him? Pookie is one of the recipients of Grey Muzzle’s support funding for the Cumberland County SPCA (CCSPCA) in New Jersey, who is prospering under devoted care during his final years. Described as a real gentleman and an ideal representative of his breed, the eight-year-old Chow Chow was neglected and mistreated before being rescued by a cruelty investigator from the CCSPCA. Pookie came to the shelter in very poor condition, missing a good portion of his fur, and was both hearing and vision-impaired. Today he’s feeling much better after some TLC from CCSPCA. He is responding to treatment for his skin condition and has been professionally groomed. He's also being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the shelter. Pookie is as sweet as they come, a real people lover. He is easy going, good natured and has years of love to give. He may just steal some hearts!
